Chlorhexidine Bigluconate Pharmacodynamics
Antiseptic agent shows bactericidal action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, has fungicidal and virucidal action (against lipophilic viruses).  Effective against vegetative forms of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (Treponema pallidum, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia spp., Ureaplasma spp., Bacteroides fragile); protozoa (Trichomonas vaginalis); Herpes-viruses (Herpes simplex type 2) as well as yeasts and dermatophytes. Stable, after treatment the skin retains on it in a certain amount, sufficient to exhibit the bactericidal effect. Remains active (somewhat reduced) in the presence of blood, pus, various secretions and organic substances. It acts on bacterial spores only at elevated temperature.

 

Indications
As therapeutic and prophylactic agent in various infections. For local use: trichomonad colpitis, cervical erosion, itching of the vulva, prevention of sexually transmitted infections (chlamydia, ureaplasmosis, trichomoniasis, gonorrhea, syphilis, genital herpes). Disinfection of purulent wounds, infected burn surfaces, disinfection of the skin (abrasions, cracks), treatment of skin and mucous membrane infections in surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, urology (urethritis, urethroprostatitis), dentistry (rinsing and irrigation – gingivitis, stomatitis, aphthae, periodontitis, alveolitis).

 

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Chlorhexidine bigluconate and other components of the drug, dermatitis.
With caution.
Childhood, pregnancy, breast-feeding.
Application in pregnancy and during breast-feeding.
Administration during pregnancy and breast-feeding is possible if the estimated benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus and child.

Dosage and administration
  • Topically. Externally.
  • It is used as irrigations and applications – 5-10 ml of the solution is applied to the affected skin surface or mucous membranes with the exposure time 1-3 min 2-3 times a day (on a tampon or by irrigation).
  • For the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases the drug is effective if it is applied not later than 2 hours after sexual intercourse. Enter the content of the bottle with the help of dropper into the urethra for men (2-3 ml), for women (1-2 ml) and in the vagina (5-10 ml) for 2-3 min. Treat the skin on the inner surfaces of the thighs, pubis, genitals. After the procedure, do not urinate for 2 hours. Complex treatment of urethritis and urethroprostatitis is carried out by injecting into the urethra 2-3 ml of chlorhexidine solution 1-2 times a day, the course is 10 days, procedures are prescribed every other day.
  • Rinse solution for local use is usually prescribed 2-3 times a day.
