Description

Pyroxicam Pharmacodynamics
Pyroxicam has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and local cooling effect. Non-selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase type 1 and 2 (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing the content of prostaglandins in tissues, which are mediators of inflammation. Pyroxicam reduces pain in joints, muscles, increases range of motion and reduces swelling associated with inflammation.

 

Indications
-Sports injuries (bruises, sprains, sprains, ligament and muscle injuries);
-osteoarthritis;
-tendinitis;
-tendovaginitis;
-shoulder scapular syndrome.
The drug is intended for symptomatic therapy, to reduce pain and inflammation at the time of use, the progression of the disease has no effect.

 

Contraindications
-High sensitivity to pyroxicam, acetylsalicylic acid, other NSAIDs or other components of the drug;
-Complete or incomplete combination of bronchial asthma, recurrent polyposis of the nose and sinuses and intolerance to acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs (including history);
-severe renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance less than 30 ml/min);
-Damage of the skin integrity at the site of intended application;
-Pregnancy;
Breast-feeding period;
-Under 18 years of age (due to insufficient data on efficacy and safety for this group of patients).

 

Dosage and administration method

 

  • Externally. Depending on the lesion area, if not prescribed otherwise: not more than 5 mg of pyroxicam (1.5-2 cm columns of 1% gel, 3-4 cm columns of 0.5% gel) should be applied to the skin and gently rubbed in 3-4 times a day.
  • The duration of treatment depends on the severity of symptoms and is about 2-3 weeks for tendinitis, tendovaginitis and brachial scapular syndrome; 1-2 weeks for sports injuries.
