Description
Quatran Xylo Pharmacodynamics
Xylometazoline belongs to the group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) with alpha-adrenomimetic effect, causes narrowing of blood vessels of nasal mucosa, removing edema and hyperemia. It relieves nasal breathing in rhinitis. The action of the drug starts within a few minutes after application and lasts for 12 hours.
Sea water, which is included as an auxiliary component, helps to maintain normal physiological state of the nasal mucosa, which reduces the symptoms of irritation and dryness caused by prolonged use of xylometazoline.
Indications
– Acute respiratory diseases (ARI) with rhinitis (runny nose);
– Acute allergic rhinitis;
– Sinusitis;
– Pollinosis;
– Otitis media (to reduce nasopharyngeal mucosa edema);
– Preparation of the patient for diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, marked atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, conditions after transsphenoidal hypophysectomy, inflammatory diseases of the skin or mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, thyrotoxicosis, pregnancy, surgical operations on the meninges (in anamnesis), childhood (under 2 years – for nasal drops 0.05%; under 6 years of age – for nasal drops 0.1 %).
Do not use during therapy with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO) and tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants, other local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) as well as with other drugs that increase blood pressure.
Caution
In hypersensitivity to adrenergic drugs, accompanied by insomnia, dizziness, arrhythmia, tremor, increased arterial pressure, porphyria, hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, coronary heart disease (angina pectoris), prostatic hyperplasia, diabetes, breast-feeding period.
Administration during pregnancy and lactation
If it is necessary to apply the drug during pregnancy and lactation, consult a physician in order to evaluate the ratio of benefits to the mother and the potential risk to the fetus/babies.
Directions for use and dosages
- Intranasal.
- Nasal drops 0.1 %
- Adults and children over 6 years of age – 1-2 drops in each nostril up to 3 times a day.
- It is not recommended to use the drug for more than 5-7 days.
- After completion of therapy the drug may be administered again only after several days.
- Consult a doctor regarding the duration of use in children.
- If after treatment no improvement or worsening of symptoms or appearance of new symptoms occurs, consult a physician.
- Use the drug only according to the indications, the route of administration and the doses stated in the instructions.
