Description

Eco-Terbin Pharmacodynamics
Terbinafin is the active substance of the drug ECO-Terbin, an allylamine, which has a wide spectrum of antifungal activity. Terbinafine is active against dermatophytes (Trichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, T. verrucosum, T. violaccum, T. tonsurans, Microsporum canis, Epidermophiton floccosum), yeasts of the genus Candida (mainly C.albicans) and certain dimorphic fungi (Pityrosporum orbiculare). Activity against yeast fungi, depending on their species, may be fungicidal or fungistatic.
Terbinafine specifically alters the early stage of sterol biosynthesis occurring in fungi. This leads to ergosterol deficiency and intracellular accumulation of squalene, which causes cell death of the fungus. Terbinafine acts by inhibiting the squalene oxidase enzyme located on the cell membrane of the fungus.
Terbinafine has no effect on the cytochrome P450 system in humans and therefore on the metabolism of hormones or other drugs.

Indications
Treatment of fungal skin infections, including mycosis of the feet (“fungus” of the foot), inguinal epidermophytosis (tinea cruris), fungal lesions of smooth skin of the body (tinea corporis), caused by dermatophytes. Discolorous lichen caused by dimorphic fungi.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to terbinafine or to any other component of the drug, children under 18 years of age.
Caution
Hepatic and/or renal insufficiency, alcoholism, suppression of medullary hematopoiesis, tumors, metabolic diseases, occlusive diseases of the limb vessels.
Use in pregnancy and during breast-feeding
In experimental studies, terbinafine has not been revealed teratogenic properties. To date, no malformations have been reported when using terbinafine. However, since the clinical experience of using the drug in pregnant women is limited, it should be used only under strict indications. Terbinafine is excreted in small amounts with breast milk. It is unknown whether this small amount may have an adverse effect on the child during breastfeeding, so it is not recommended for use in breastfeeding mothers.
