Description
Paracetamol Pharmacodynamics
Non-narcotic analgesic, has analgesic and antipyretic effects. The drug blocks cyclooxygenase 1 and 2 in the central nervous system, affecting the centers of pain and thermoregulation. In inflamed tissues, cellular peroxidases neutralize the effect of paracetamol on cyclooxygenase, which explains the lack of significant anti-inflammatory effect. The drug has no negative effect on water-salt metabolism and mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract.
Indications
Used in children from 3 months to 12 years as:
– antipyretic – to reduce elevated body temperature against a background of colds, influenza and childhood infectious diseases (chickenpox, mumps, measles, rubella, scarlet fever, etc.);
– Painkillers – for toothache, including teething, headache, earache from otitis and sore throat.
For children 2-3 months of age, a single dose may be used to lower the fever after vaccination. If the fever does not go down, a physician should be consulted.
