Description

Pancreatin Pharmacodynamics

Pancreatin enzymes (lipase, amylase, trypsin, chymotrypsin) as its components shall break down proteins into amino acids, fats into glycerol and fatty acids, starch into dextrins and monosaccharides.
Improves the functional state of the gastrointestinal tract, normalizes digestion processes.
Trypsin inhibits stimulated pancreatic secretion with analgesic effect.

Indications
Substitution therapy for external pancreatic insufficiency: chronic pancreatitis, pancreatectomy, conditions after radiation, dyspepsia, cystic fibrosis.
Meteorism, diarrhea of non-infectious genesis, Remheld syndrome (gastrocardia syndrome).
Impaired digestion (condition after resection of the stomach and small intestine); for improvement of digestion in persons with normal gastrointestinal tract function in case of dietary errors (fatty food, large amount of food, irregular meals) and in case of disorders of mastication function, sedentary lifestyle, prolonged immobilization.
Preparation for X-ray and ultrasound examination of the abdominal cavity.

Contraindications .
Hypersensitivity to the drug components, acute pancreatitis, exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis, children under 6 years of age.
The drug contains lactose monohydrate, therefore its use is not recommended in patients with rare hereditary diseases associated with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome.
Caution
The drug should be prescribed with caution in cystic fibrosis, because the dose should be adequate to the quantity and quality of the food intake, it is not recommended to use pancreatin in high doses due to increased risk of stricture development (fibrous colonopathy).
Criteria for adequately chosen dose: increase in body weight, normalization of stools (less than 3 times per day, normalization of consistency), reduction of abdominal bloating.
Administration during pregnancy and breast-feeding
The safety of using pancreatin during pregnancy has not been studied sufficiently. It can be used in cases when the expected benefits to a mother exceed the potential risk to a fetus.
Pancreatin is not contraindicated during lactation.
