Description

Nitsergoline Pharmacodynamics
Nitsergoline is an ergoline derivative that improves metabolic and hemodynamic processes in the brain, decreases platelet aggregation and improves hemorheological blood indices, increases blood flow velocity in the upper and lower extremities, shows alpha-1-adrenoblocking action.

Indications
– Acute and chronic cerebral metabolic and vascular disorders (due to atherosclerosis, arterial hypertension, cerebral vascular thrombosis and embolism), including transient ischemic attack, vascular dementia and headache caused by vasospasm;
– Acute and chronic peripheral metabolic and vascular disorders (organic and functional limb arteriopathies, Raynaud’s disease, syndromes due to peripheral blood flow disorders.

Contraindications
Recent myocardial infarction, acute bleeding, marked bradycardia, orthostatic dysregulation, hypersensitivity to nicergolin or other components of the drug.
With caution:
Hyperuricemia or gout in the history and/or in combination with drugs that impair uric acid metabolism or excretion.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Due to a lack of specific studies, nicergoline should be used during pregnancy only when clearly necessary and under the direct supervision of a physician. It is necessary to refrain from breastfeeding while taking the drug since nicergolin and the products of its metabolism penetrate into the mother’s milk.

Dosage and administration

  • Orally, 5 to 10 mg three times a day at equal intervals for a long period of time (up to several months). In vascular dementia, it is indicated to use 30 mg 2 times a day (it is recommended to consult a physician about the advisability of continuing therapy every 6 months).
  • The dose and duration of therapy depend on the nature of the disease. In some cases, it is preferable to start therapy with parenteral administration and then switch to oral administration for maintenance treatment.
  • Patients with impaired renal function (serum creatinine > 2 mg/dL) are recommended to use nicergolin in lower therapeutic doses.
