Description

Lidocaine Pharmacodynamics
Lidocaine by its chemical structure belongs to the derivatives of acetanilide and has a pronounced local anesthetic effect. Local anesthetic effect is caused by inhibition of nerve conduction through blockade of sodium channels in nerve endings and nerve fibers. Anesthetic effect of lidocaine develops 5-10 minutes after instillation into the conjunctival sac, the duration of action is 60-120 minutes.

Indications
Used for anaesthesia before:
Measurement of intraocular pressure (tonometry);
gonioscopy;
Diagnostic conjunctival scraping;
Short-term surgical interventions on the cornea and conjunctiva (including removal of foreign bodies and stitches from the cornea and conjunctiva);
In preparation for ophthalmic surgeries.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Caution
Age under 18 years.
Lidocaine should be used with caution in patients with a history of drug allergic reactions. No cross-sensitivity to lidocaine has been observed in patients with an allergy to para-aminobenzoic acid derivatives.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
During pregnancy and lactation the drug should be used only if the benefit to the mother exceeds the possible risk to the fetus and child.

Directions for use and dosages

  • Dosage: 1-2 drops (not more than 2-3 drops) into conjunctival sac before examination or surgery.
