Pentalgin Extra-Gel Pharmacodynamics
Ketoprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, when used topically it has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-edema effects. The mechanism of action is related to the inhibition of the activity of cyclooxygenase 1 and cyclooxygenase 2 enzymes that regulate the synthesis of prostaglandins. When used as a gel, it provides local therapeutic effect on the affected joints, tendons, ligaments, muscles. In joint syndrome, it reduces joint pain at rest and when moving, morning stiffness and joint swelling. Does not have a damaging effect on joint cartilage.

 

Indications
– Acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of the musculoskeletal system (inflammatory affection of ligaments and tendons, osteoarthritis, osteochondrosis with radicular syndrome, radiculitis, bursitis, sciatica, lumbago, joint syndrome in acute gout);
– Muscle pain of rheumatic and non-rheumatic origin;
– Post-traumatic inflammation of soft tissues and musculoskeletal system (ligament injuries and tears, contusions).
The drug is intended as symptomatic therapy, to reduce pain and inflammation at the time of use, the progression of the disease has no effect.

 

Contraindications
– Individual hypersensitivity to ketoprofen or other components of the drug;
– Hypersensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (indicating a history of bronchospasm, urticaria or rhinitis, caused by taking acetylsalicylic acid), tiaprofenic acid and fenofibrate;
– complete or incomplete combination of bronchial asthma, recurrent polyposis of the nose and sinuses, and intolerance to acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs (including history);
– hypersensitivity of the skin to sunlight (photosensitization) in the anamnesis;
– A history of skin allergies to sunscreens or perfumes;
– Exposure to sunlight on the treated areas, including tanning beds, during the course of application of the drug and for 2 weeks thereafter;
– Damage to the skin (intractable dermatosis, eczema, infected abrasions, wounds) in the area of the supposed application;
– Pregnancy (III trimester), breast-feeding;
– Children under 18 years of age.
With caution:
Ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, severe renal and hepatic dysfunction, hepatic porphyria, chronic heart failure, bronchial asthma, advanced age, pregnancy (I and II trimester).

Pregnancy and lactation:
Use of the drug is contraindicated in the third trimester of pregnancy. In I and II trimesters of pregnancy, the drug may be used only after consultation with a physician in case when the estimated benefits to the mother exceed the potential risk to the fetus. If it is necessary to apply the drug during breast-feeding, breast-feeding should be discontinued.

 

Directions for use and dosages
  • The drug is intended for external use.
  • The gel should be applied to clean dry skin. A small amount of gel (3-5 cm) applied in a thin layer, followed by gently rubbing into the inflamed or painful areas of the body. The drug should be applied 2-3 times a day.
  • Duration of treatment should not exceed 14 days.
