Description

Lugol Pharmacodynamics
The main active ingredient is molecular iodine, which has antiseptic and locally irritating effect. It has bactericidal action against Gram-negative and Gram-positive flora, as well as against pathogenic fungi (including yeasts); Staphylococcus spp. are more resistant to iodine, but suppression of staphylococcal flora is observed in 80% of cases during long-term use of the drug; Pseudomonas aeruginosa is resistant to the drug action. When applied to large surfaces of skin and mucous membranes, iodine has a resorptive effect: it participates in the synthesis of TK and T4, has proteolytic action. Potassium iodide improves dissolution of iodine in water. Glycerol has a soothing effect. The drug is low-toxic.

Indications
Infectious-inflammatory diseases of the mucous membrane of the mouth and throat in adults and children.

Contraindications
Decompensated liver and kidney disease. Hypersensitivity to iodine and other components of the drug.
With caution.
Hyperthyroidism, dermatitis herpetiformis, children under 12 years of age.
Use during pregnancy and during breast-feeding.
Use during pregnancy is contraindicated. Iodine penetrates into the mother’s milk and may potentially affect the thyroid function of breast-fed children.
