Synestrol Pharmacodynamics
Hexestrol is a derivative of stilbene, a synthetic estrogen of non-steroidal structure. Hexestrol, interacting with specific receptors, affects the target organs. It has hypolipidemic effect, increases blood content of alpha-lipoproteins and insulin sensitivity, improves glucose utilization. In high doses hexestrol retains water and sodium ions in the body, inhibits erythropoiesis.
Indications
– prostate cancer.
Contraindications .
– Hypersensitivity to hexestrol or auxiliary agent of the drug;
– Liver and kidney diseases (severe hepatic insufficiency, jaundice, hepatic porphyria);
– diseases associated with increased blood clotting.
Caution: thrombophlebitis, thrombosis or thromboembolism in anamnesis, familial hyperlipoproteinemia, pancreatitis.
How to use and dosages
- Warm the ampoule to 30-40°C before use.
- How to administer: intramuscularly.
- The drug is administered daily in 3-4 ml of Synestrol solution at a dose of 20 mg/ml (0.06-0.08 g) for 2 months, then in 0.5-1 ml of Synestrol at a dose of 20 mg/ml per day. The total dose and duration of treatment depend on changes in the prostate gland, presence or absence of metastases, general condition and degree of feminization. Maximum single dose of the drug is 0.06 g (3 ml of Synestrol solution at a dose of 20 mg/ml); maximum daily dose of the drug (5 ml of Synestrol at a dose of 20 mg/ml).
