Description

Licorice root syrup Pharmacodynamics
The drug has an expectorant effect, due, primarily, to the presence of glycyrrhizin, which enhances secretory function of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract.

Indications
It is used in adults and children as an expectorant in upper respiratory tract diseases, accompanied with cough, mainly in the presence of poorly discharged, thick and viscous secretions (especially in children and elderly people).

Contraindications
Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug, pregnancy, lactation, bronchial asthma, gastritis, peptic ulcer and duodenal ulcer during exacerbation.
With caution:
Patients with diabetes, (because of the high sugar content of the drug), children because of the presence of ethyl alcohol in its composition.

Dosage and administration

  • Inside adults, 1 teaspoon dissolved in 1% cup of water, 3 times a day;
  • Children under 2 years – 1-2 drops (pre-diluted in 1 teaspoon of water, 3 times a day;
  • Children from 2 to 6 years – 2-10 drops (pre-diluted in 1 teaspoon of water) 3 times a day;
  • Children from 6 to 12 years – 50 drops (pre-diluted in 1 teaspoon of water) 3 times a day;
  • Children over 12 years – % teaspoon (pre-diluted in 1 teaspoon of water) 3 times a day.
  • The course of treatment 7-10 days. The appropriateness of repeated course of treatment is determined by the doctor.
  • In the presence of poorly discharged sputum and to facilitate expectoration it is recommended to drink plenty of warm water.
