Description
Cytochrome C Pharmacodynamics
Metabolic agent, has antihypoxic, trophic effect, stimulates regeneration processes. It is a catalyst of cellular respiration. The mechanism of action of the drug is related to the presence of iron in the prosthetic group, which is able to convert from oxidized to reduced state. This results in acceleration of endogenous redox reactions and metabolic processes in tissues, improvement of oxygen utilization and reduction of tissue hypoxia in various pathological conditions.
Indications
Cytochrome C is used in combination therapy as a remedy for improvement of tissue respiration in conditions accompanied by disturbances in redox processes in the body: asphyxia in newborns; severe trauma; before and after surgical intervention (in order to prevent shock), during remission of bronchial asthma with the presence of respiratory failure, in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart failure; in viral hepatitis complicated by hepatic coma; in poisoning with sleeping pills and carbon monoxide.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the drug, pregnancy, lactation.
Dosage and administration method
- The drug is used intravenously and intramuscularly. Before using Cytochrome C, the contents of the bottle should be dissolved in 4 ml of water for injections and individual sensitivity to it should be determined. For this purpose, 0.1 ml of the drug (0.25 mg) is injected intradermally. If no reaction occurs within 30 minutes (redness, itching, urticaria), you can start treatment with the drug. Before prescribing a second course it is necessary to repeat the biological test.
- The drug is administered intravenously slowly or intramuscularly in an amount of 10-20 mg 1-2 times a day. The course of treatment shall be 10-14 days.
- In case of cardiac insufficiency the drug is diluted in 200 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution or 5% glucose solution and injected intravenously by dropwise (30-40 drops per minute) for 6-8 hours. The daily dose is 30-80 mg.
- In postoperative period (surgery for congenital and acquired heart defects), the drug is administered intravenously 2 times a day at 10 mg per injection. In case of severe condition (trauma, shock, hepatic coma, poisoning with sleeping pills and carbon monoxide), the drug is prescribed in an amount of 50-100 mg. In newborn asphyxia, the drug is injected into the umbilical vein during the first two minutes after birth in a dose of 10 mg.
- In bronchial asthma the drug is prescribed intramuscularly 2 times a day in a dose of 5-10 mg per injection. The course of treatment lasts from 14 to 25 days, depending on the severity of hypoxia.
