Description
Syntomycin Pharmacodynamics
Bacteriostatic broad-spectrum antibiotic, left- and right-rotating isomer of chloramphenicol. Disrupts protein synthesis in the microbial cell (having good lipophilicity, penetrates through the bacterial cell membrane and reversibly binds to 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, where amino acid transfer to the growing peptide chains is delayed, which leads to disruption of protein synthesis).
It is active against most strains of Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms resistant to penicillin, tetracyclines, sulfonamides; it promotes purification and healing of burn pus wounds and trophic ulcers, accelerates epithelialization.
Indications
Infectious wounds in phase II of the wound process (no pus, necrotic tissue), caused by susceptible microorganisms, including 2-3 degree burns, trophic ulcers that do not heal for a long time.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to chloramphenicol and other components of the drug, the period of infancy (less than 4 weeks), suppression of bone marrow hematopoiesis, acute intermittent porphyria, gluco-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, hepatic, renal insufficiency, skin diseases (fungal diseases, psoriasis, eczema).
Due to the lack of osmotic activity (base – oil, emulsifier), it is not recommended to use in the first phase of the wound process (abundant pus, pronounced tissue swelling, pain and the presence of necrotic tissue).
With caution:
Period of pregnancy, lactation and early childhood, patients previously treated with cytostatic drugs or radiation therapy
Pregnancy and lactation:
No adverse effects of external application on the fetus during pregnancy and breast-feeding have been identified.
Directions for use and dosages
- Externally.
- After surgical treatment of wounds and burns Sintomycin liniment is applied directly to the wound surface, after which a sterile gauze bandage is applied (or dressing and then – to the wound). Tampons with liniment loosely fill cavities of purulent wounds after surgical treatment, and gauze turundas with Syntomycin liniment are inserted into fistulous passages.
- When treating wounds and burns in phase II of the wound process – once every 1-3 days depending on the dynamics of wound healing.
