Description
Exportal powder Pharmacodynamics
In the large intestine, lactitol is split by the intestinal flora into low-molecular organic acids, which leads to an increase in osmotic pressure in the large intestine, increasing the volume of stools, softening them, facilitating defecation and normalizing bowel function. The laxative effect usually occurs within 24 hours after administration of the drug (the delay is due to the passage of the drug through the gastrointestinal tract). At the beginning of treatment, the laxative effect of the drug may be delayed, the effect may come on the second or third day of its administration.
In patients with hepatic encephalopathy or hepatic coma (or precoma) the effect is achieved due to ammonia migration from blood into the large intestine (due to lower pH, increased osmotic pressure in the intestinal lumen), removal of delayed ammonium ions and other nitrogen-containing toxic substances from the large intestine. Lactitol suppresses proteolytic bacteria and increases the number of acidophilic bacteria.
Indications
Constipation, the need to regulate stools for medical purposes (colon cleansing in preparation for endoscopic and radiological studies, surgical interventions on the rectum, anal sphincter and the area adjacent to it), intestinal dysbacteriosis. Hepatic encephalopathy, hepatic precoma and coma, hyperammonemia.
Contraindications
Individual intolerance to lactitol, galactosemia, bowel obstruction, suspected organic damage of the gastro-intestinal tract, abdominal pain and rectal bleeding of unclear origin.
Dosage and administration
- Orally with meals, mixed with various beverages (water, tea, coffee, juices, etc.) or liquid foods.
- In constipation and dysbacteriosis. Exportal powdershould be taken once, the entire daily dose at once, at one time.
- Children 1-6 years of age -2.5 – 5 g (1/2 – 1 teaspoon of powder) per day.
- Children 6-12 years of age -5 – 10 g (1 – 2 teaspoons of powder) a day.
- Children 12-16 years of age -10 to 20 g (2 to 4 teaspoons of powder) per day.
- Adults: 20 g (4 teaspoonfuls of powder) per day.
- Exportal powder should induce stools once a day; after several days of stable laxative effect the dose may be reduced. In some cases half the recommended daily dose may be sufficient to produce the desired effect. Minimum course of therapy, after which it is necessary to consult a physician – 5 months. It is recommended to use the drug in children under medical supervision.
- When regulating stools for medical purposes. 20 g of the drug, diluted in 1 liter of water, take three times (at 12, 15 and 18 hours) on the eve of medical procedures.
- In hepatic encephalopathy, hepatic precoma and coma, hyperammonemia. Dosage of the drug should be adjusted individually for each patient, depending on the degree of severity of the disease and individual reaction to the drug. Initial daily dose is usually 0.5-0.7 g per 1 kg of body weight. This dose is divided into three single doses. It is taken with meals. A dose that causes two “soft” stools per day should be chosen.
