Tofizopam-Canon Pharmacodynamics
The drug from the group of benzodiazepine derivatives (atypical benzodiazepine derivative), has an anxiolytic effect, which is practically not accompanied by sedative, muscle relaxant and anticonvulsant effects. It is a psycho-vegetative regulator, eliminates various forms of vegetative disorders. It has a moderate stimulating activity.
Due to lack of muscle relaxant effect the drug can also be used in patients with myopathy and myasthenia gravis. Due to its atypical chemical structure, unlike classical benzodiazepine derivatives, Tofizopam in therapeutic doses practically does not cause physical or mental dependence or withdrawal syndrome.
Tofizopam is classified as a daytime anxiolytic.
Indications
Treatment of mental (neurotic) and psychosomatic disorders accompanied by emotional tension, anxiety, vegetative disorders, apathy, fatigue and depressed mood. Alcohol withdrawal syndrome.
Contraindications
– Hypersensitivity to tofizopam, other benzodiazepine derivatives or other drug components;
– children under 18 years of age;
– pregnancy;
– Breast-feeding period;
– conditions accompanied by marked psychomotor agitation, aggression or marked depression;
– decompensated respiratory insufficiency;
– obstructive apnea syndrome;
– coma;
– concomitant use with tacrolimus, sirolimus, cyclosporine;
– galactose intolerance, congenital lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome (the drug contains lactose monohydrate).
Caution
Decompensated chronic respiratory distress, acute respiratory failure in anamnesis, closed-angle glaucoma, epilepsy, organic lesions of the brain (e.g. atherosclerosis).
Administration during pregnancy and lactation
Administration of the drug during pregnancy and breast-feeding is contraindicated.
Dosage and administration regimen
- Dosage regimen is determined individually with consideration of the patient’s condition, clinical form of the disease and individual drug sensitivity.
- In adults, 50-100 mg (1-2 tablets) 1-3 times a day is prescribed.
- If used irregularly, 1-2 tablets may be taken.
- Maximal daily dose is 300 mg.
- In elderly patients and patients with renal insufficiency, the daily dose is reduced by about 2 times.
