Sulginum-Avexima Pharmacodynamics
Antibacterial agent of broad spectrum action, sulfonamide derivative. Sulfaguanidine is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms (including pathogens of intestinal infections). It is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Acts mainly in the intestinal lumen. The mechanism of action is due to competitive antagonism with PABA and competitive inhibition of dihydropteroatsintatase, which leads to disruption of tetrahydrofolic acid synthesis, required for synthesis of purines and pyrimidines.
Indications
Bacterial dysentery. Colitis and enterocolitis with diarrhea. Carrying dysentery bacilli, typhoid bacilli. Preparation for operations on the small and large intestine.
Contraindications .
Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides.
How to use and doses
- During acute intestinal infections a single dose for adults is 1-2 g, number of times of administration: 1st day – 6 times, 2nd-3rd day – 5 times, 4th day – 4 times, 5th day – 3 times / day. The course of treatment is 5-7 days. Children under 3 years of age – 200 mg/kg/day in 3 doses for 7 days; children over 3 years of age – 400-750 mg (depending on age) 4 times/day. For prevention of postoperative complications: 50 mg/kg every 8 hours for 5 preoperative days and in the same dose for 7 days after surgery.
