Sangviritrin Pharmacodynamics
Sangvirithrin® is obtained from the herb Macleaya cordate and Macleaya smallfruiteda of the poppy family. Sangviritrin® is a mixture of bisulfates of two quaternary benzophenantridine alkaloids similar in structure and properties, sanguinarine and heleritrin.
Sangviritrin® has a wide range of antimicrobial activity, acting on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeast-like and mycelial fungi. It is active against antibiotic-resistant strains of microorganisms. In therapeutic doses it acts bacteriostatically. The mechanism of antimicrobial action of Sangviritrin® is based on inhibition of bacterial nuclease, violation of cell wall permeability, division membranes, nucleotide structure.

Indications
As a prophylactic agent: in newborns for the prevention of purulent inflammatory skin diseases, and in surgical patients – for the prevention of wound infection.
As a therapeutic agent (in combination therapy) in infectious-inflammatory diseases of the skin and mucous membranes of bacterial and fungal etiology, including Candida albicans: in dentistry – parodontitis, aphthous stomatitis, ulcerative-necrotic gingivostomatitis; in otorhinolaryngology – tonsillitis, external otitis, chronic purulent media otitis; in surgery – infected burns, long non-healing wounds and ulcers; In gynecology – endocervicitis, colpitis, vaginitis, cervical erosion, in dermatology – pyodermia, dermatomycosis, uncomplicated forms of fungal lesions of smooth skin without eczematization.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, fungal lesions with exematization phenomena. Liver and kidney disease with impaired function.

How to use and dosages

  • Externally, topically used 0.2% alcohol solution. Also use water-alcohol solution, prepared ex tempore of 0.2% alcohol solution. For this purpose, the drug is diluted 40 times (1 teaspoon per 200 ml of water).
  • As a preventive measure newborns are treated skin folds with a sterile cotton swab moistened with 0.2% alcohol solution of the drug or water-alcohol solution prepared from it daily 2 times a day during the first 5-6 days of life. To prevent pus-inflammatory complications the wound is treated with a sterile gauze tampon abundantly moistened with 0.2% alcohol solution of the drug, covered with a sterile napkin moistened with the same solution, and a fixing dressing is applied. After 3-4 days the wound shall be treated again with the drug and a dry sterile dressing shall be applied. The course of treatment is 7-10 days.
  • Treatment of periodontitis is carried out after removal of dental deposits and scraping of pathological gingival pockets. Thin turundas, abundantly moistened with 0.2% alcoholic solution of the drug or water-alcoholic solution prepared immediately before application, are inserted into the gingival pockets for 20 minutes. The procedure shall be performed daily or every other day. The course of treatment is 4-6 procedures.
  • When stomatitis of various etiologies on the lesions of the oral mucosa application of water-alcohol solution of the drug, prepared from 0.2% alcohol solution of the drug 2-3 times a day for 2-5 days is carried out. Children over 5 years of age in case of stomatitis are prescribed rinses with warm water-alcohol solution of the drug. Children under 5 years of age with stomatitis mucosa of the mouth is smeared with a water-alcohol solution of the drug.
  • For tonsillitis the tonsils are treated with 0.2% alcohol solution of the drug once a day for 2-5 days. In addition, adults and children over 5 years of age are prescribed a daily rinse with aqueous-alcohol solution 3-5 times a day for 3-7 days.
  • Treatment of external otitis is performed after thorough removal of discharge from the external auditory canal and insertion of cotton turundas soaked in 0.2% alcohol solution for 10-15 minutes 2-3 times a day. Minimum course of treatment is 7 days.
  • In treatment of chronic suppurative otitis media after removal of pus from ear, 0.2 % alcohol solution of the drug shall be instilled into ear for adults 8 drops 3 times a day, for children – 3-4 drops 3 times a day. The course of treatment is 14 days.
  • For treatment of infected burns, long non-healing sores and ulcers lesions are treated with a sterile gauze tampon abundantly moistened with 0.2% alcohol solution of the drug, covered with a sterile napkin moistened with the same solution and a fixing bandage is applied. With infected burns dressings are made every other day, with long-term non-healing wounds and ulcers – daily 1-2 times a day. Duration of treatment depends on the nature and severity of the disease. The minimum course of treatment is 10-12 days.
  • When endocervicitis, colpitis, vaginitis, cervical erosion Sangwiritrin ® is used in the form of sprinkling or lotions with a warm water-alcohol solution 1-2 times a day. The course of treatment is 5-10 procedures.
  • For pyoderma, dermatomycosis, including those complicated by mixed microflora the drug is prescribed in the form of dressings moistened in 0.2% alcohol solution of the drug 1-2 times a day. Treatment duration is up to 3 weeks.
