Kaliya Orotat Pharmacodynamics
Orotic acid is one of the precursors of pyrimidine nucleotides that are part of nucleic acids involved in the synthesis of protein molecules, so salts of orotic acid are considered as substances of anabolic action and are used in disorders of protein metabolism, for their stimulation. Usually the potassium salt of orotic acid (potassium orotate) is used. Potassium orotate stimulates the synthesis of nucleic acids, albumin production in the liver (especially in conditions of prolonged hypoxia), increases appetite, has diuretic, regenerative properties.
Indications
– As an adjunctive agent in diseases of the liver and biliary tract (caused by acute and chronic intoxication, except for organic lesions of the liver and biliary tract);
– As part of the combined therapy of chronic heart failure and heart rhythm disturbances;
– Alimentary and alimentary-infectious hypotrophy in children;
– Chronic physical overexertion.
Administration during pregnancy and lactation
Use the drug with caution during pregnancy and lactation.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug;
– Acute and chronic organic liver damage;
– ascites;
– nephrourolithiasis;
– renal insufficiency;
– lactose intolerance;
– lactase deficiency;
– glucose-galactose malabsorption;
– under 3 years of age.
Dosage and administration
- Should be taken orally 1 hour before a meal or 4 hours after a meal.
- Adults take 250-500 mg 2-3 times a day. The course of treatment lasts on average 20-30 days.
- If necessary, treatment can be repeated after 1 month. In exceptional cases, the adult dose may be increased to 3 g per day.
- Children – 10-20 mg/kg of body weight per day, divided into 3-4 doses (eg, if the child’s body weight is 25 kg, the permitted dose is 25 x 10 = 250 mg (1/2 tablet) to 25 x 20 = 500 mg (1 tablet per day, divided into 3-4 doses).
- The course of treatment is 3-5 weeks.
