Description

Butadion Pharmacodynamics
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), from the group of butylpyrazolidones, has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. It does not selectively inhibit cyclooxygenase activity (COX-1 and COX-2) and inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins.
Butadion is used to relieve pain syndrome and reduce swelling associated with inflammation. When used topically, it causes alleviation or disappearance of joint pain at rest and on movement. It reduces morning stiffness and swelling of joints, helps to increase range of motion.

Indications
Post-traumatic inflammation of soft tissues and joints, e.g. as a result of ligamentous injuries and contusions.
Rheumatic soft tissue diseases (tendovaginitis, bursitis, periarticular tissue lesions). Muscle pain of rheumatic and non-rheumatic origin.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to phenylbutazone or other components of the drug, to acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Anamnestic evidence of an attack of bronchoobstruction, allergic rhinitis, urticaria after taking acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs.
Pregnancy (I and III trimester), breastfeeding period.
Violation of the integrity of the skin in the place of intended application.
Children under 14 years of age.
Concomitant use with other drugs containing phenylbutazone.
With caution:
Ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, bronchial asthma, severe hepatic or renal dysfunction, blood clotting disorders, childhood age from 15 years, pregnancy II trimester.
Pregnancy and lactation:
The drug is contraindicated in the I and III trimester of pregnancy because of the possibility of fetal development disorders. In II trimester of pregnancy Butadion is used only if the estimated benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus. If it is necessary to apply the drug during lactation, it is recommended to stop breast-feeding.
Dosage and administration method

  • Outwardly.
  • Adults and children over 14 years: The drug is applied in a thin layer, a 2-3 cm strip over the inflammation without rubbing, 2-3 times a day. The course of treatment is 7-10 days.
  • After 10 days of application it is necessary to consult a doctor.
