Papaverine MC 40 mg – [20 tablets]

Papaverine reduces smooth muscle tone, has a vasodilator and antispasmodic effect. It is a phosphodiesterase enzyme inhibitor and causes intracellular accumulation of cyclic 3.5 adenosine monophosphate, which leads to disorders of smooth muscle contractility of internal organs (gastro-intestinal tract, respiratory and urogenital systems) and vessels and their relaxation during spastic states. In high doses it reduces excitability of the heart muscle and slows down intracardiac conduction. The effect on the central nervous system is weak (in high doses it has a sedative effect).

Smooth muscle spasm of: abdominal organs (cholecystitis, pylorospasm, spastic colitis); renal colic, peripheral blood vessels (endarteritis); cerebral blood vessels, heart (angina pectoris – as a part of complex therapy); bronchospasm

– Hypersensitivity to papaverine and other drug components;

– atrioventricular blockade;

– glaucoma;

– severe renal insufficiency;

– sucrose/isomaltase deficiency, fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption;

– respiratory depression, coma;

– old age (risk of hyperthermia);

– children under 10 years of age (for this dosage form).

With caution

– conditions after craniocerebral trauma;

– impaired renal function;

– insufficient adrenal function;

– hypothyroidism;

– prostatic hyperplasia;

– supraventricular tachycardia;

– shock conditions;

– pregnancy, lactation (see section “Administration during pregnancy and lactation”).

Administration during pregnancy and breastfeeding

It is not established the safety of using the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding. During pregnancy and breast-feeding the drug may be used only if the foreseen benefits to the mother exceed the potential risk to the fetus or child.
