Nystatin Pharmacodynamics
Fungistatic.
Binding with sterols in the cell wall of fungi, disrupts its permeability, which leads to the release of the main components of the cell. It is active against yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida, including Candida albicans. It has no cumulative properties.
Indications
Candidiasis of mucous membranes (including the vagina, rectum and lower intestines), skin and internal organs; prophylaxis of candidiasis during long-term treatment with antibacterials, especially in emaciated and weakened patients.
Contraindications .
Hypersensitivity, liver dysfunction, pancreatitis, peptic ulcer, pregnancy.
Dosage and administration
- Orally, regardless of meals. Adults: 500000 iu 4 – 8 times a day. In generalized candidiasis the daily dose is increased up to 600000 IU. Children of 1 to 3 years of age – 250 000 IU 3-4 times a day, over 13 years – 250 000-500 000 IU 4 times a day. The course of treatment is 10-14 days. If necessary the course may be repeated in a week.
- Rectally, deep into the rectum 1 suppository 2 times a day (morning and evening). The course of treatment 10-14 days. The duration of treatment and the need for repeated courses determined by the doctor.
- Vaginally, after hygienic procedures – 250000 – 500000 units 2 times a day (morning and evening). The course of treatment is 10-14 days.
- Topically, the ointment is applied by a thin layer to the affected areas of the skin and mucous membranes 1-2 times a day for 7-10 days. It can be combined with taking the drug inside.
