Nystatin Pharmacodynamics
Polyene antifungal antibiotic. It has antifungal (fungistatic and fungicidal) activity. Its structure has a large number of double bonds, which determine high tropism of the substance to sterol formations of the cytoplasmic membrane of fungi. As a consequence, the molecule is embedded into the cell membrane with the formation of numerous channels, contributing to the uncontrolled transport of water, electrolytes and non-electrolytes. The cell loses resistance to external osmotic forces and lyses. Resistance develops very slowly.
It is active against yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida and Aspergillus. It has fungistatic, and in high doses – fungicidal effect.
Indications
Treatment and prevention of skin candidiasis.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Caution
Pregnancy, children’s age.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Pregnancy
Application during pregnancy is possible, if the assumed benefit for a mother outweighs the potential risk for a fetus or a child, only after consulting a physician.
Period of breast-feeding
It is possible to use the drug during breast-feeding (nystatin is not absorbed from the skin surface), except for the breast area, only after consultation with the attending physician.
How to use and dosages.
- Outwardly.
- The ointment is applied to the affected areas of the skin 2 times a day, possibly used in the form of bandages, put to 12-24 hours.
- The course of treatment – 10-14 days.
