Description

Norfloxacin Pharmacodynamics
An antimicrobial agent of the group of fluoroquinolones. It has a bactericidal effect. It affects the bacterial enzyme DNA-gyrase, which provides superspiralization and thus stability of bacterial DNA. Destabilization of DNA chain leads to the death of bacteria. It has a wide range of antibacterial action. Active under in vitro and in vivo conditions against the following microorganisms: Gram-positive aerobes – Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Streptococcus agalactiae; Gram-negative aerobes – Citrobacter freundii, Enterobacter aerogenes, Enterobacter cloacae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens, Salmonella spp. , Shigella spp.
Sensitive in vitro: Gram-negative aerobes – Citrobacter diversus, Edwardsiella tarda, Enterobacter agglomerans, Elaemophilus ducreyi, Klebsiella oxytoca, Morganella morganii, Providencia alcalifaciens, Providencia rettgeri, Providencia stuartii, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas stutzeri; others – Ureaplasma urealyticum.
Inactive against obligate anaerobes.

Indications
Infectious-inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to norfloxacin:
– complicated urinary tract infections;
– Chronic bacterial prostatitis.
For the treatment of the following infections and inflammatory diseases, norfloxacin can be used only as an alternative to other antimicrobial agents:
– Uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
When using Norfloxacin, official national recommendations for appropriate use of antibacterial agents as well as sensitivity of pathogenic microorganisms in a particular country should be taken into account.

Contraindications
– Hypersensitivity to norfloxacin, excipients of the drug and other quinolones;
– glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency;
– tendinitis, tendovaginitis, tendon rupture associated with taking fluoroquinolones (including anamnesis);
– hereditary lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption;
– Childhood and adolescence (under 18 years);
