Elzhina vaginal tablets Pharmacodynamics
Elzhina vaginal tablets is a combined preparation with antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory action for local use in gynecology.
Ornidazole is an antiprotozoal agent with antimicrobial action. Ornidazole is effective against Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia (Giardia intestinalis) as well as some anaerobic bacteria such as Bacteroides spp.
Clostridium spp., Fusobacterium spp. and anaerobic cocci: Peptostreptococcus spp.
Mechanism of action is due to inhibition of synthesis and damage of DNA structure of pathogens.
Neomycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic of aminoglycoside group. It is active against a number of Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic microorganisms. Microorganisms develop resistance to neomycin slowly and to a small extent. It is practically not absorbed through the mucous membranes.
Econazole combines antifungal action against dermatophytes Trichophyton spp., Microsporum spp., Epidermophyton spp., yeast and yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida with antibacterial action against Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. The mechanism of action is inhibition of ergosterol synthesis of the cell membrane of fungi. It acts fungicidal and bactericidal.
Prednisolone is a dehydrated analog of hydrocortisone, it has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and antipruritic effects. Helps to quickly reduce itching and burning.
Indications
Bacterial vaginitis caused by banal pyogenic flora;
vulvovaginitis caused by fungi of the genus Candida;
Vaginitis caused by a mixed infection.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ornidazole, econazole and other imidazole/nitroimidazole derivatives, neomycin and other aminoglycosides, prednisolone, as well as to any of the components included in the preparation;
organic diseases of the central nervous system;
hematopoiesis disorders;
pregnancy;
breast-feeding;
Children under 18 years of age.
With caution
liver dysfunction;
alcoholism.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Pregnancy
Elzhina is contraindicated in pregnancy.
Period of breast-feeding.
Elzhina is contraindicated during breast-feeding. In case of necessity of application of the drug, breastfeeding must be stopped.
Directions for use and dosages
- Intravaginal.
- Elzhina vaginal tablets should be inserted deep into the vagina in the supine position after hygienic treatment of the external genitalia. Before introducing it into the vagina, the tablet should be held in cold boiled water for
- 20-30 seconds. After insertion of the tablet it is necessary to lie down for 10-15 minutes.
- Use intravaginally one vaginal tablet daily before going to bed.
- The average duration of treatment is 6-9 days.
- During menstruation Elzhina is used according to the usual schedule.
- If after treatment there is no improvement or new symptoms appear, consult a doctor.
