Polynadim Pharmacodynamics
Dimedrol (diphenhydramine), a part of the drug, is a blocker of histamine H 1 -receptors, has an anti-allergic effect, reducing swelling, itching and lacrimation. Naphthisin (naphazolin) has alpha-adrenomimetic effect, causes prolonged constriction of peripheral vessels. Due to its vasoconstrictor properties, it has an anti-inflammatory (anti-edema) effect when applied topically.
Indications
1) Acute allergic conjunctivitis, including pollinosis conjunctivitis, conjunctivitis with drug allergy. 2) Infectious eye diseases with an acute allergic component as an adjunctive agent.
Contraindications
-Hypersensitivity to one of the: drug components; -conjunctival xerosis (dry keratoconjunctivitis, Sjögren’s syndrome); -combination with MAO inhibitors; -closed angle glaucoma; -children under 2 years of age; -pregnancy, lactation;
How to use and dosages
- In case of acute signs: 1 drop every 3 hours into the conjunctival sac until reduction of edema and eye irritation; then 1 drop 2-3 times a day until clinical symptoms disappear. Children over 2 years of age are prescribed 1-2 drops/day. Do not use more than 5 days without doctor’s approval. If symptoms of conjunctival irritation persist for more than 72 hours, the drug should be discontinued.
