Semax Pharmacodynamics
Semax nasal drops 1% is an original synthetic peptide preparation, which is an analog of the adrenocorticotropic hormone fragment (ACTH4-10 ) (methionyl-glutamyl-histidyl-phenylalanyl-prolyl-glycyl-proline), completely devoid of hormonal activity. All amino acids are L-form.
Semax has an original mechanism of neurospecific action on the central nervous system (CNS). Semax is a synthetic analog of corticotropin, which has nootropic properties and is completely devoid of hormonal activity. The drug improves cognitive processes of the brain, such as memory, learning and attention. It increases mental performance and improves adaptation of brain cells to hypoxia, anesthesia and other damaging effects. The drug is practically non-toxic when administered once or for a long time. It does not exhibit allergic, embryotoxic, teratogenic and mutagenic properties. It has no local irritant effect.
Indications
Acute period of moderate to severe ischemic stroke as part of complex therapy.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Acute mental disorders, anxiety disorders, children under 18 years of age, pregnancy, lactation, seizures in the anamnesis.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Contraindicated. Clinical studies have not been conducted.
Directions for use and dosages
- Semax is administered intranasally using a bottle sealed with a plastic screw cap or a drip cap.
- If the bottle is sealed with a plastic screw cap, remove the plastic screw cap on initial use and replace it with the cap pipette provided.
- Pour the drug into the pipette. Slightly tilting your head sideways, squeeze the required number of drops of the drug on the mucous membrane of the nasal passage. If the bottle is capped with a dropper cap, carefully cut off the tip of the pipette, close the pipette tightly with the cap. Before use, invert the bottle so that the liquid fills all the space of the pipette. Remove the cap and squeeze the required amount of drops of the drug on the mucous membrane of the nasal passage.
- Keep the bottle with the drug tightly closed with a pipette with a cap, or a plastic screw cap, or a dropper cap.
- The volume of one drop is 0.05 ml (50 µl). One drop of the standard solution contains 500 µg of the active substance.
- When a stroke is moderately severe, 2-3 drops are administered in each nostril at a single dose, which is 2000 mcg (4 drops or 0.2 ml) to 3000 mcg (6 drops or 0.3 ml). Dosing is carried out 3-4 times a day, with an interval between doses of 3-4 hours. The daily dose is 6000 mcg (12 drops or 0.6 ml) to 12000 mcg (24 drops or 1.2 ml).
- In severe stroke, 3 to 4 drops are administered in each nostril in a single dose, which is 3000 mcg (6 drops or 0.3 m) to 4000 mcg (8 drops or 0.4 mL). Dosing is carried out 4-5 times a day with an interval between doses of 2.5-3 hours. The daily dose is 12000 mcg (24 drops or 1.2 ml) to 20000 mcg 40 drops or 2.0 ml).
- The drug is prescribed daily for 10 days.
