Ketoprofen-Vertex Pharmacodynamics
Ketoprofen is one of the most effective cyclooxygenase inhibitors. It also inhibits the activity of lipooxygenase and bradykinin. It stabilizes lysosomal membranes and prevents the release of enzymes involved in the inflammatory process.
The main properties of ketoprofen are analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-edema effects. Ketoprofen has no negative effect on the articular cartilage.
Indications
Symptomatic therapy – reduction of pain and inflammation at the time of use, does not affect the progression of the disease – for the following conditions:
-reactive arthritis (Reiter’s syndrome);
-Osteoarthritis of various localizations;
-Periarthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, myalgia, neuralgia, radiculitis;
-Musculoskeletal injuries (including sports), muscle and ligament contusions, sprains, ligament and muscle tendon tears.
Contraindications .
-Hypersensitivity to ketoprofen or other components of the drug, as well as to salicylates, thiaprofenic acid or other NSAIDs, fenofibrate; history of skin allergy to sunscreen and perfume;
-The complete or incomplete combination of bronchial asthma, recurrent polyposis of the nose and sinuses, and intolerance to acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs (including a history);
-Skin integrity disorders in the area where the gel is applied (eczema, acne, sore dermatitis, open or infected wounds);
-A history of photosensitivity reactions;
-Exposure to sunlight, including indirect sunlight and ultraviolet irradiation in a tanning bed for the duration of treatment and 2 weeks after stopping treatment with the drug;
-Pregnancy (III trimester);
-Childhood (under 15 years).
Dosage and administration.
- For external use.
- A small amount of gel (3-5 cm) applied thinly to the skin with inflamed or painful area of the body 1-2 times a day and gently rubbed.
- The dosage must be chosen according to the size of the area affected: 5 cm of the gel corresponds to 100 mg of ketoprofen, 10 cm – 200 mg of ketoprofen.
- If necessary, the drug can be combined with other dosage forms of ketoprofen (capsules, tablets, rectal suppositories, solution for intramuscular injection).
- The maximum dose of ketoprofen is 200 mg/day.
- An occlusive dressing is not recommended.
- Do not use without medical advice for more than 14 days.
- If you forget to apply the gel, apply it at the time when the next dose should be applied, but do not double it.
