Triterpene saponin escin, contained in horse chestnut extract, stimulates the interreceptors of the rectal mucosa, causing an increase in its peristalsis and rapid evacuation of feces. The effect occurs 5-15 minutes after application of the suppository. The urge to empty the bowels stops after the act of defecation. The drug does not cause stretching of the walls of the rectum, strengthens and tones the smooth muscle of the organ. With a course of use, the drug restores the defecation reflex and normalizes the biorhythm of defecation.
Indications
Symptomatic treatment of constipation, including habitual and chronic constipation, hypotonic dyskinesia of the large intestine (e.g., in bed-ridden and elderly patients).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, bowel obstruction, acute inflammatory diseases of the abdominal cavity, acute hemorrhoids, acute proctitis and paraproctitis, spastic constipation, tumors and rectal fissures, severe dehydration, age under 18 years (due to insufficient clinical data).
Dosage and administration method
- The drug is used rectally (inserted into the rectum) once a day for 5-15 minutes before the planned defecation. To remove the suppository from the cell package, you need to break off one cell with a suppository on the notch and, separating the edges of the tape, pull them in different directions. Insert the suppository into the anus with the pointed end, as deep as possible. For more comfortable insertion of the suppository it is recommended to bend over, squat or lie on your side with your legs tucked.
- Single dose for adults is 50-100 mg per day, the maximum single dose is 300 mg, the maximum daily dose is 300 mg.
- Duration of one course of treatment with the drug is 14 days. Further treatment with the drug is possible only after consultation with the doctor. If after treatment no improvement or worsening of symptoms or appearance of new symptoms occurs, consult a physician.
- Use the drug only according to the indications, the method of administration and in such doses as specified in the instructions.
