Diclofenac Pharmacodynamics
The active ingredient – diclofenac – is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, which has pronounced analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Indiscriminately inhibiting cyclooxygenase type 1 and 2, disrupts the metabolism of arachidonic acid and the synthesis of prostate glands and novas, which are the main link in the development of inflammation.
In rheumatic diseases it reduces swelling, hyperemia and pain at rest and on the move, morning stiffness and swelling of joints, improving their functional ability. In post-operative and traumatic injuries it quickly suppresses pain and inflammation in the area of application of the drug, promotes resorption of post-traumatic hematoma.
Indications
-Degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system (deforming osteoarthritis, osteochondrosis);
– Post-traumatic inflammation of tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints (as a result of injuries, stress and bruises);
– Pain syndrome and swelling associated with muscle and joint diseases (lumbago, sciatica, neuralgia, myalgia, tendinitis).
Designed for symptomatic therapy, reduction of pain and inflammation at the time of use, does not affect the progression of the disease.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to diclofenac. Complete or incomplete combination of bronchial asthma, recurrent nasal and paranasal sinuses and intolerance to acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (including anamnesis). Pregnancy (III trimester), breastfeeding, children (under 12 years). Violation of the integrity of the skin in the intended place of application.
With caution: hepatic porphyria
(exacerbation), erosive-ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, severe hepatic and renal dysfunction, chronic heart failure, blood clotting disorders (including hemophilia, prolongation of bleeding time, tendency to bleedings), older age, pregnancy I and II trimester.
Administration during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
The drug should not be used in III trimester of pregnancy. There is no experience of using the drug during breastfeeding. It is possible to use in I and II trimesters only after consultation with a physician, if the expected benefits to a mother exceed the potential risk to a fetus.
Directions for use and dosages.
- Externally.
- For adults and children over 12 years of age, the drug is applied to the skin 2 times a day (every 12 hours, preferably in the morning and evening), at a dose of 2-4 grams. Apply a thin layer to the skin over the inflammation and lightly rub it in.
- Maximum daily dose of the ointment should not exceed 8 g.
- Course of treatment – no more than 14 days. The need for a longer application of the drug is determined by the doctor.
- If the hands are not the area of localization of pain, after applying the ointment, they should be washed. Use in minimally effective doses for a minimally short course.
