Description

Myrokrom Pharmacodynamics
An anti-allergic agent, it has a membrane stabilizing effect, prevents mast cells degranulation and release of histamine, bradykinin, leukotrienes and other biologically active substances. It prevents the development, but does not eliminate the symptoms of immediate allergic reactions.
When administered orally in patients with mastocytosis, relief of gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, abdominal pain) and skin symptoms (urticaria, pruritus) is observed in 2 6 weeks of treatment and persists for 2-3 weeks.

Indications
– Food allergy (in case of proven allergen) as monotherapy or in combination with a diet limiting the intake of the allergen;
– Non-specific ulcerative colitis (as adjuvant in combination with glucocorticosteroids (GCS) or sulfasalazine, and as drug of choice in patients with hypersensitivity to sulfasalazine).

Contraindications
– Hypersensitivity to sodium cromoglycate or any other component of the drug;
– Childhood under 2 years of age.
Administration during pregnancy and breast-feeding
During pregnancy (especially during the first trimester) caution must be exercised when prescribing the drug as well as when prescribing other drugs. The accumulated experience on using the drug during pregnancy confirms absence of its adverse effects on fetal development. The drug should be prescribed during pregnancy only in cases when the necessity of its use is obvious. It has not been established whether sodium cromoglycate enters the mother’s milk, but on the basis of its physical and chemical properties it is unlikely.
There have been no reports confirming that the use of sodium cromoglycate by nursing mothers has had any adverse effects on the baby.

Dosage and administration

  • The drug is taken orally in the form of capsules or solution prepared from the contents of capsules (open capsules, the contents poured into a glass, pour 1 teaspoon of hot boiled water into the glass, the resulting solution diluted with 2 teaspoons of cold water).
  • In food allergies, 15 to 20 minutes before a meal, adults and children over 14 years of age are prescribed in an initial dose of 200 mg 4 times daily; children aged 2 to 14 years – 100 mg 4 times daily. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 40 mg/kg.
  • In case of sustained therapeutic effect, the dosage may be reduced to a minimum to ensure the absence of symptoms.
  • Patients who for some reason cannot avoid eating food containing allergens should take 1 dose 15 min before meals. The optimal dose is chosen individually, but in the range of
    100 to 500 mg.
  • If you accidentally miss a dose, it should be taken as soon as possible. If this coincides with the taking of the next dose, the missed dose should not be taken.
