Pharmacological properties

PROSTOSORB is an inorganic, non-selective, polyfunctional enterosorbent based on highly dispersed silica with a particle size of up to 0.09 mm, with the chemical formula SiO2. Specific surface area of the preparation is about 300 m2/g. The capacity of adsorption of the drug in internal use is not less than 220 mg/g.

Pharmacodynamics

PROSTOSORB has pronounced sorption and detoxification properties. In the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract binds and removes from the body endogenous and exogenous toxic substances of various nature including pathogenic bacteria and bacterial toxins, antigens, food allergens, drugs and poisons, heavy metal salts, radionuclides and alcohol. PROSTOSORB also sorbs some metabolic products of the body, including excess bilirubin, urea, cholesterol and lipid complexes, as well as metabolites responsible for the development of endogenous toxicity.

– Acute and chronic intoxications of different origin in adults and children;

– Acute intestinal infections of any genesis, including food toxic infections, and diarrheal syndrome of non-infectious origin, dysbacteriosis (in the complex treatment);

– purulent-septic diseases, accompanied by severe intoxication;

– acute poisoning by potent and poisonous substances, including drugs and alcohol, alkaloids, salts of heavy metals, etc;

– Food and drug allergies;

– hyperbilirubinemia (viral hepatitis and other jaundice) and hyperazotemia (chronic renal failure);

– People living in environmentally disadvantaged regions and workers in hazardous industries in order to prevent.

Contraindications .

– Gastric and duodenal ulcer in the acute phase;

– bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract;

– intestinal atony;

– Individual intolerance to the drug.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

The drug PROSTOSORB during pregnancy and lactation is not contraindicated.

 

• PROSTOSORB is taken orally only as an aqueous suspension!
• To get the suspension the necessary amount of the drug is thoroughly mixed in 1/4 to 1/2 cup water. It is recommended to prepare fresh suspension before each drug intake and drink it 1 hour before meals or intake of other drugs.
• Average daily dose in adults is 0.1 – 0.2 g per 1 kg of body weight (6-12 g).
• The drug is taken in 3-4 doses during a day.
• Maximal daily dose for adults is 0.33 g per 1 kg of body weight (20 g).
• The dose for children is calculated depending on the body weight (see table).

• In cases of food allergy the drug is taken immediately before meals, the daily dose of PROSTOSORB is divided into three doses during the day.
• The duration of treatment depends on the diagnosis and severity of the disease, the course of treatment for acute intoxication 3-5 days; with allergic diseases, chronic intoxications treatment duration up to 10-14 days. Repeated courses after 2-3 weeks, on the advice of the doctor.
• Peculiarities of the drug PROSTOSORB in various diseases.
• 1. Food toxicosis and acute poisoning.
• It is recommended to start the therapy with gastric lavage with 0.5-1% PROSTOSORB suspension. In case of severe poisoning during the first day the gastric lavage is carried out through the tube every 4-6 hours, along with this the drug is given by mouth. The single dose in adults may be 0.1-0.15 g/kg body weight of a patient 2-3 times a day.
• 2. acute intestinal infections.
• It is recommended to start treatment with PROSTOSORB in the first hours or 24 hours of the disease in combination with other methods of treatment. In the first day, the daily dose is given for 5 hours with 1 hour intervals between doses. On the second day the daily dose is given in 4 doses during the day. The duration of treatment is 3-5 days.
• Treatment of viral hepatitis.
• PROSTOSORB is used as detoxifying agent in complex therapy of viral hepatitis in usual dosage during first 7-10 days of illness.
• 4. allergic diseases.
• In case of acute allergic reactions of medication or food genesis it is recommended to wash out the stomach and intestines with 0.5-1% PROSTOSORB suspension. Then the drug is given in usual doses until clinical effect occurs. In chronic food allergies, PROSTOSORB courses of 7-10-15 days are recommended; the drug is taken immediately before meals. Similar courses are indicated for acute recurrent urticaria and Quincke’s edema, eosinophilia, on the eve of exacerbation of pollinosis and other atopy.
• 5. Chronic renal insufficiency.
• PROSTOSORB in a daily dose of 0.15-0.2 g/kg of body during 25-30 days, with a break of 2-3 weeks.
