Clemastine Pharmacodynamics
H1-histamine receptor blocker, belongs to the group of antihistamines of benzhydryl ethers group. It has a strong antihistamine and antipruritic effect with a rapid onset of action and duration up to 12 hours, prevents the development of vasodilation and contraction of smooth muscles induced by histamine.
With anti-allergic effect, it reduces vascular and capillary permeability, inhibits exudation and edema formation, reduces itching, has m-cholinoblocking effect.
Indications
– Pollinosis (hay fever, including allergic rhinoconjunctivitis);
– Urticaria of various origins;
– Itching, pruritic dermatoses;
– Acute and chronic eczema, contact dermatitis as adjunctive therapy;
– Drug allergy as adjunctive therapy;
– Insect bites.
Contraindications
– Hypersensitivity to clemastine or other components of the drug, as well as to similar antihistamines;
– pregnancy;
– Breast-feeding period;
– intake of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs);
– Lower respiratory tract diseases (including bronchial asthma);
– porphyria;
– Children under 6 years of age (for this dosage form);
– lactase deficiency, lactose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption;
– elderly patients.
Dosage and administration
- For oral administration.
- Do not exceed the recommended dosage!
- The drug is taken orally before a meal with water.
- Adults and children over 12 years: 1 tablet (1 mg) in the morning and in the evening.
- According to a doctor’s recommendation, a daily dose may be up to 6 tablets. The maximum single dose should not exceed 2 tablets at a time.
- Children 6 to 12 years of age: ? – 1 tablet in the morning and in the evening.
