Description

Neupilept Pharmacodynamics
Citicoline is a natural endogenous compound that is an intermediate metabolite in the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, one of the main structural components of the cell membrane.
It has a wide range of action – it helps to restore damaged cell membranes, inhibits the action of phospholipases, prevents the excess formation of free radicals, as well as prevents cell death by acting on the mechanisms of apoptosis. In the acute period of stroke citicoline reduces the volume of brain tissue damage, improves cholinergic transmission. In craniocerebral trauma reduces the duration of post-traumatic coma and severity of neurological symptoms, in addition, contributes to reducing the duration of the recovery period.
In chronic cerebral hypoxia citicoline is effective in treating cognitive disorders such as memory impairment, lack of initiative, difficulties in daily activities and self-care. It increases the level of attention and consciousness and reduces the manifestation of amnesia.
Citicoline is effective in treating sensory and motor neurological disorders of degenerative and vascular etiology.

Indications
– Acute period of ischemic stroke (as part of complex therapy);
– The recovery period of ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes;
– Craniocerebral trauma, acute (as part of complex therapy) and recovery period;
– Cognitive and behavioral disorders in degenerative and vascular brain disease.

Contraindications .
– Hypersensitivity to any of the drug components;
– should not be prescribed for patients with evident vagotonia (high tone of parasympathetic part of autonomic nervous system);
– Due to insufficient clinical data, it is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age.
Pregnancy and lactation:
There are insufficient data on the use of citicoline in pregnant women. Although no adverse effects have been observed in animal studies, citicoline is prescribed during pregnancy only when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
When using citicoline during lactation women should stop breast-feeding, because there is no data about citicoline excretion with breast milk.

Dosage and administration regimen

  • Recommended dosage regimen
  • Acute period of ischemic stroke and craniocerebral injury (CTE): 1000 mg citicoline every 12 hours from the first day of diagnosis, treatment duration at least 6 weeks.
  • Maximum daily dose is 2000 mg.
  • Recovery period of ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, recovery period of traumatic brain injury cognitive and behavioral disorders in degenerative and vascular diseases of the brain:
    Administered v/v or v/m at 500-2000 mg of citicoline per day. Dosage and duration of treatment depending on severity of disease symptoms.
  • Elderly patients.
    No dosage adjustment is required in elderly patients when NEUPYLEPT® is prescribed.
  • The drug should be used immediately after opening the ampoule.
  • NEIPLEPT® is administered intramuscularly, intravenously by jetting (slowly over 3-5 minutes depending on the dose prescribed) or dropwise (infusion rate – 40-60 drops per minute).
  • The intravenous (IV) route of administration is preferable to the intramuscular (I/M) route. Repeated administration of the drug at the same site should be avoided when administering intramuscularly.
  • NEUPILEPT® is compatible with all types of intravenous isotonic and dextrose solutions.
