Description
Levomecol Pharmacodynamics
It is a combination product for topical application with anti-inflammatory (dehydrating) and antimicrobial action, active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms (staphylococci, pseudomonas and Escherichia coli).
It easily penetrates deep into tissues without damaging biological membranes, stimulates regeneration processes. In the presence of pus and necrotic masses antibacterial effect is maintained.
Indications
Purulent wounds (including those infected with mixed microflora) in the first (purulent-necrotic) phase of the wound process.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug; children under 1 year of age (infants have slower biotransformation of chloramphenicol than adults).
Administration during pregnancy and lactation
Administration during pregnancy is possible only if benefit for a mother exceeds a risk for a fetus.
During lactation period the drug administration or lactation should be discontinued.
Dosage and administration method
- Topically. The drug is impregnated with sterile gauze napkins, which are loosely filled into the wound. It is possible to instill pus cavities through a catheter (drainage tube) using a syringe.
- In this case the ointment is preheated to 35-36? Dressings are performed daily, once a day, until the wound is completely cleared of pus-necrotic masses. With large wound surfaces daily dose of ointment in terms of chloramphenicol should not exceed 3 g.
- Duration of treatment depends on the severity and course of the disease.
