Bisacodyl Pharmacodynamics
Causes irritation of the receptor apparatus of the intestine, has a direct effect on the intestinal mucosa, increasing its peristalsis and increasing mucus secretion in the large intestine.
It is not absorbed in the intestine. It is a prodrug; in an alkaline environment it is hydrolyzed to form a metabolite, which has an irritating effect on the mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract. The effect occurs within the first hour.
Indications
Hypotonic and atonic constipation (including constipation in the elderly; constipation after surgery and childbirth). Stool regulation (hemorrhoids, proctitis, anal fissures). Preparing for surgery, instrumental and radiological examinations.
Contraindications .
Hypersensitivity, bowel obstruction, impinged hernia, acute inflammatory diseases of the abdominal cavity, peritonitis, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, metrorrhagia, cystitis, spastic constipation, acute proctitis, acute hemorrhoids, children under 8 years of age.
Caution
Hepatic and/or renal insufficiency.
Application during pregnancy and lactation.
Use with caution during pregnancy and lactation.
Dosage and administration
- Rectally, it is prescribed in the following dosages: for adults and children over 14 years of age – 10-20 mg bisacodyl (1-2 candles), for children aged 8-14 years – 10 mg bisacodyl (1 candle).
