Description
Bicalutamide Pharmacodynamics
An antiandrogenic nonsteroidal agent. By binding to receptors that have an affinity for androgens, it suppresses androgen activity, resulting in regression of the prostate tumor. It has no other endocrine activity.
Indications
Prostate cancer – as part of combination therapy with GnRH analogue (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) or with surgical castration.
Contraindications
Simultaneous use with terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride; childhood, hypersensitivity to bicalutamide.
Do not prescribe for female patients.
