Description
Benzylbenzoate Pharmacodynamics
Antiparasitic drug for external use. It acts toxically on different types of mites, including scabies mites, and has antipediculosis activity. It penetrates through chitinous cover and accumulates in tick organism in toxic concentrations (tick death occurs in 7-32 minutes). Causes death of larvae and adults of scabies mites.
Indications
Benzyl benzoate is used to treat scabies.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Not recommended for use in children under 3 years of age.
Pregnancy and lactation:
It is not recommended for use in pregnant and lactating women.
Dosage and administration method.
- The course of treatment lasts 5 days. It is prescribed as 20% emulsion for adults and 10% emulsion for children under 5 years old (the drug is diluted with boiled water in 1:1 ratio).
- Outwardly. Emulsion is thoroughly rubbed into hands after washing at night over all skin except face and scalp. Hands do not wash until morning. One treatment requires 50 – 100 g of emulsion. On the 2nd and 3rd days take a break in treatment, the emulsion residues are not washed off the skin and bed linen is not changed. On the 4th day the treatment is repeated. The emulsion is completely washed off the skin on the fifth day with warm water and soap without rubbing the skin. Clothing and bedding shall be changed after each treatment.
