Description
Becarbon Pharmacodynamics
Becarbon is a combination drug, which consists of belladonna leaf extract and sodium bicarbonate. The drug has antispasmodic and antacid effects.
Antispasmodic effect is due to the effect of belladonna alkaloids: due to m-cholinoblocking effect the tone of smooth muscle organs (bronchial tree, abdominal organs, etc.) decreases, spasm of intestinal muscles, biliary tract is eliminated, peristalsis, secretion of digestive, salivary and other glands are reduced, positive dromotropic and chronotropic effect is developed,
the pupil dilates (at the same time there may be increase of intraocular pressure), accommodation paralysis is possible. Penetrating through the blood-brain barrier, affects the central nervous system (CNS), excites respiratory center, large doses cause motor and mental disorders, seizures, hallucinogenic phenomena, respiratory paralysis.
Sodium bicarbonate neutralizes free hydrochloric acid of gastric juice (antacid action), due to which it has a protective effect on the mucous membrane of the stomach.
Indications
The drug is used as a symptomatic agent in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, accompanied by increased secretory function of the stomach and spasms of smooth muscles in order to relieve pain and dyspepsia (hyperacid gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcer, colic).
