Description

Prostudox Pharmacodynamics
A combined remedy, the action of which is due to its constituent components.
Paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic. Its mechanism of action is believed to be inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, mainly in the central nervous system.
Paracetamol is a non-narcotic analgesic. It blocks cyclooxygenase (COX) only in the central nervous system (CNS), affecting the centers of pain and thermoregulation (in inflamed tissues, cellular peroxidases neutralize the effect of paracetamol on COX), which explains the lack of anti-inflammatory effect. Its lack of effect on prostaglandin synthesis in peripheral tissues explains its lack of negative effect on water-salt metabolism (sodium and water retention) and gastrointestinal (GI) mucosa.
Phenylephrine hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic agent whose action is aimed at stimulation of adrenoreceptors (mainly α-adrenoreceptors), which leads to reduction of nasal mucosal edema and facilitation of nasal breathing.
Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) replenishes the increased need for vitamin C during “colds” and flu, especially during initial stages of the disease. Components in the drug do not cause drowsiness and do not impair concentration.
