Acetylcysteine (Ecofomural) Pharmacodynamics
Acetylcysteine is a broad spectrum antibiotic. Mechanism of action is associated with inhibition of the first stage of peptidoglycan synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. Being a structural analogue of pyruvate phosphoenol, it enters into a competitive interaction with N-acetyl-glucosamine-3-o-enolpyruvil-transferase enzyme, as a result of which there is a specific, selective and irreversible inhibition of this enzyme.
Active against most gram-negative bacteria: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae; Gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus spp. (including Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis), Streptococcus spp. (including Enterococcus faecalis).
Indications
Bacterial infections of the urinary tract in various localizations, caused by microorganisms sensitive to phosphomisiu: acute, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, asymptomatic bacteriuria, prevention of urinary tract infections after surgical intervention and transurethral diagnostic studies.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to phosphomizumab or other drug components, severe renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min), children under 5 years of age, sucrose/isomaltase deficiency, fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption.
Administration during pregnancy and lactation During pregnancy, the drug is used only if the expected benefits to the mother exceed the potential risk to the fetus. If cetylcysteine (Ecofomural) is administered during lactation, it is necessary to stop breast-feeding for the period of therapy.
Dosage and administration method
- Acetylcysteine (Ecofomural) is used once daily on an empty stomach 2 to 3 hours before or after a meal, preferably before bedtime after bladder emptying: 3.0 g for adults and children above 12 years of age and 2.0 g for children from 5 to 12 years of age. The contents of the package is dissolved in 1/2 cup water.
- The course of treatment is 1 day.
- For prevention of urinary tract infections during surgery and diagnostic procedures, the above dose is taken 2 times – 3 hours before and 24 hours after the intervention.
