Description
Bromhexin Pharmacodynamics
Bromhexin has mucolytic (secretolytic), expectorant and mild anti-cough effect. Reduces sputum viscosity (depolymerizes mucoprotein and mucopolysaccharide fibers, increases the serous component of bronchial secretion); activates the atrial epithelium, increases volume and improves sputum discharge.
Indications
Acute and chronic bronchopulmonary diseases accompanied by extra-viscous sputum formation (pneumonia, tracheobronchitis, obstructive bronchitis, bronchiectasis, pulmonary emphysema, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary tuberculosis, pneumoconiosis).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Pregnancy. Breast-feeding period. Childhood under 12 years (due to the presence of alcohol). Peptic ulcer (acute stage). Sucrose/isomaltase deficiency, fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption. History of episodes of hemoptysis.
Caution
It is necessary to apply to patients with gastric bleeding in anamnesis; peptic ulcer in anamnesis; at bronchial diseases accompanied by excessive accumulation of secretions; renal and/or hepatic insufficiency; at bronchial asthma, because accidental inhalation of levomenthol, mint and eucalyptus oils containing in the preparation can lead to laryngospasm or can cause an attack of bronchial asthma.
The presence of alcohol in the drug may have adverse effects on children, pregnant women, people with brain disease, epilepsy, craniocerebral trauma, alcoholism. If there are diseases or conditions listed in this section, the patient should consult a physician before use.
Administration during pregnancy and lactation
The drug is contraindicated in pregnancy and during breastfeeding. If it is necessary to use the drug, breast-feeding must be discontinued.
Dosage and administration methods
- Inside, 3 times a day.
- Adults and children over.
- Single dose 23-46 drops (corresponds to 8-16 mg of bromhexine hydrochloride)
- Maximum daily dose 138 drops = 48 mg bromhexine hydrochloride
- Children aged 12 to 14 years and patients weighing 50 kg 23 drops (corresponding to 8 mg bromhexine hydrochloride) 69 drops = 24 mg bromhexine hydrochloride
- Single dose 23 drops (equals 8 mg bromhexine hydrochloride)
- Maximum daily dose 69 drops = 24 mg bromhexine hydrochloride
- In case of renal insufficiency, the required dose of the drug is reduced or the intervals between the doses are increased.
- Sufficient fluids should be taken during treatment to maintain the secretolytic action of bromhexine.
- If the disease pattern worsens or there is no improvement after 4-5 days, you should consult a physician.
- Use the drug only according to the indications, the method of administration and in the doses specified in the instructions.
