Description
Novocaine Pharmacodynamics
A local anesthetic with moderate anesthetic activity and a wide range of therapeutic action. Being a weak base, it blocks sodium channels, prevents generation of impulses in the endings of sensitive nerves and conduction of impulses through nerve fibers. It changes the action potential in the membranes of nerve cells without a pronounced effect on the resting potential. Suppresses conduction of not only pain but also other modality impulses.
Indications
As a local anesthetic for hemorrhoids and anal fissures.
Contraindications .
Hypersensitivity (including to para-aminobenzoic acid and other local anesthetic esters), children (under 18 years).
Caution
Emergency operations accompanied with acute blood loss, conditions accompanied with reduction in hepatic blood flow (e.g., chronic heart failure, liver diseases), progression of cardiovascular failure (usually due to development of heart block and shock), proctitis, pseudocholinesterase deficiency, renal failure, in elderly patients (over 65 years), critically ill, weakened patients, pregnancy, period of delivery.
Administration during pregnancy and lactation
During pregnancy and lactation, the drug should be used when the benefit to the mother exceeds the risk to the fetus or child.
Directions for use and dosages
- Rectally. The suppository is inserted deeply into the anus (after purging enema or spontaneous bowel emptying), after releasing the suppository from the envelope with scissors (by cutting the package along the contour of the suppository). Use 1 suppository 1-2 times a day.
- The duration of treatment as a local anesthetic is not more than 5 days. If painful phenomena persist, you should consult your doctor.
