Description
Armaviscon Description
Area of application – orthopedics, rheumatology, traumatology, surgery, sports medicine. Therapy for severe stages of osteoarthritis.
Remedy Armaviscon Forte is a protector of synovial fluid of the joint. It is used against the background of degenerative changes of synovial cartilage surface to improve joint mobility, decrease pain syndrome, decrease inflammatory reactions and restore homeostasis in cartilage.
Properties and efficacy
Means analgesic, corrective action on the metabolism of bone and cartilage.
Armaviscon Forte is a sterile viscous solution of sodium salt of hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronate) of high purity, high molecular weight. Hyaluronic acid is an essential component of the extracellular matrix, and is present in high concentrations in cartilage and synovial fluid. Hyaluronic acid provides viscosity and elasticity of synovial fluid, and it is necessary for the formation of cartilage. In osteoarthritis there are deficiencies and qualitative changes in hyaluronic acid in the synovial fluid and cartilage. Intra-articular injection of hyaluronic acid leads to improvement of the functional state of the joint. When using Armaviscon Forte in osteoarthritis of the knee, an improvement in the clinical course of osteoarthritis is observed up to six months after application, with anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects due to replenishment and restoration of viscosity and elasticity of synovial fluid, which fills the joint cavity and acts as an intra-articular lubricant. It prevents friction of the articular surfaces, which eliminates pain and inflammation. It also protects against premature wear and destruction of hyaline cartilage, provides mobility, has cushioning abilities (absorbs external shocks, protecting the components of the joint from damage).
The solution of sodium hyaluronate is distributed locally in the joint cavity, where it undergoes local transformation, having a lubricating effect.
Removal or replacement of the product is not applicable, as it is inseparably mixed with the synovial fluid of the joint.
Armaviscon Forte is a colorless, viscous solution.
Indications
– To increase joint mobility and to eliminate pain due to degenerative-dystrophic or post-traumatic joint changes;
– for rehabilitation after arthroscopy;
– For the treatment of patients with increased physical activity and who regularly load the affected joints.
Contraindications
– Hypersensitivity to the components of the remedy;
– The presence of infection or skin lesions in the injection area;
– acute synovitis;
– Childhood under 18 years of age (due to lack of clinical data).
Administration during pregnancy and lactation
It is not recommended to apply during pregnancy and breastfeeding because of the lack of clinical data. Administration of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding is at the discretion of the orthopedic surgeon.
Directions for use and dosages
- Intra-articularly. The contents of one filled syringe into the knee joint – 3 ml (69 mg).
It is required 1 injection per course of treatment according to the standard technique described below. - Usually a 1.5 inch 21G needle is used for the knee joint, for other joints it is recommended to use a needle of the required size (17G to 22G), depending on the joint.
- Insertion technique
The product should only be administered by medical personnel who have received special training. Mode of introduction to the hip and other joints is determined by the doctor individually, taking into account the severity of degenerative or traumatic changes in the joint. It is recommended to perform injections into hip and other joints under ultrasound or fluoroscopic control. It is recommended to warm the product to room temperature before use. The drug should be injected accurately into the joint cavity according to standard techniques, taking into account the anatomical features. Before administering the drug you should remove the effusion from the joint sac. The same needle can be used for removal of the effusion and administration of the agent, once inserted before aspiration. In this case the syringe with the agent is attached to the needle that has been freed from the syringe. The available amount of synovial fluid should be aspirated before slow injection to confirm the needle is in the joint cavity. The rules of asepsis and antiseptics should be observed during the procedure. Injection into the joint cavity should be stopped if pain occurs during the injection. When injecting the needle, especially for injections into the hip joint, the use of local anesthesia is recommended. Air should be avoided in the syringe. - Unused until the end of the drug should not be stored.
- Duration of therapeutic effect – up to 6 months. If necessary, it is possible to carry out a second course of injections after consultation with the doctor.
