Antiglaucoma drug – local inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase

SKU: 61572 Category:

Description

Dorzolan Solo Pharmacodynamics
Dorzolamide hydrochloride is a carboanhydrase II inhibitor.
Inhibition of carboanhydrase (CA) in the ciliary body of the eyeball reduces intraocular fluid production, presumably by slowing down the synthesis of bicarbonate ions with their subsequent reduction to sodium and fluid excretion. This results in a decrease in intraocular pressure (IOP).

– Primary open-angle glaucoma;
– pseudoexfoliative glaucoma;
– Secondary glaucoma (without anterior chamber angle block).
The drug is prescribed for children:
– For the treatment of glaucoma in children from 1 week of age in monotherapy or as an adjunct to treatment with beta-adrenoblockers

Contraindications

Dosage and administration methods

  • When using Dorzolan® solo the usual dosage is 1 drop in the affected eye (or in both eyes) in the morning, afternoon and evening.
  • If any anti-glaucoma drug is replaced by Dorzolan® solo, treatment with Dorzolan® solo should be started from the next day after withdrawal of the previous drug.
  • If Dorsolan® solo is used simultaneously with other eye drops, they must be put in at least 10 min apart.
  • Procedure for handling the vial:
    1. Rotate the vial counter-clockwise to open it and remove the cap. 2.
    2 Carefully, without touching the tip of the vial, turn the vial upside down, fix it between thumb and forefinger of one hand.
    3. Tilt your head back, place the tip of the vial over your eye and with the index finger of your other hand pull down the lower eyelid. Slightly press the bottle and drip the desired amount of drug into the conjunctival sac of the eye.
    Avoid contact of the tip of the open vial with the surface of the eye and hands.
    4. After use place the cap on the vial and close by rotating it clockwise.
    After opening the bottle the drug can be used within 1 month. At the end of this period the drug should be thrown away.
  • Do not use the drug if the vial is visibly damaged.
  • Using nasolacrimal occlusion or closing the eyelids for 2 minutes after injection reduces systemic absorption. This helps to reduce the incidence of systemic side effects and increase the local activity of the drug.
